Residential basement excavation beside a brick boundary wall, overlooking the suburbs
Basement excavation

Overview

How it works.

The treatment is carried out from outside the basement. Grout is injected into the ground around the basement walls to help reduce water ingress.

Whether this approach suits your basement depends on the site conditions and the access available around the walls, so we look at both before proposing any work.

Used for

  • Helping reduce water ingress around basement walls
  • External treatment, from outside the basement

Good to know

Before you start.

  • 01

    Site conditions and access

External treatments depend on the ground around the basement and the access available to reach it. We review both before recommending this approach.

  • 02

    Best suited to sandy soils

Grout injection generally works best in sandy, granular soils that allow the grout to flow between the particles. Clay, silt and other low-permeability materials can restrict its spread, so suitability is considered for each site.

  • 03

    Look at drainage too

Long-term performance depends on the cause of the original problem, so issues such as leaking pipes or poor drainage may need to be addressed as well.
