04 / Useful information
Micro-fine grout injection involves pumping a fine cement-based grout into the ground. In suitable soils, it spreads between the soil particles and hardens, creating a stronger, more stable mass.
It generally works best in sandy, granular soils that allow the grout to flow between the particles. Clay, silt and other low-permeability materials can restrict its spread, so suitability needs to be considered for each site.
Grout injection can help address ground movement contributing to cracking, where the treatment is suitable. Existing cracks generally require separate repairs, and the cause of the movement should be understood before deciding on a solution.
This depends on the size and depth of the treatment area, access, ground conditions and the amount of grout required. The grout also needs time to cure before certain follow-on works, such as excavation or additional loading.
Some projects require an engineer to assess the problem and specify the treatment. This is particularly relevant where a building is moving, a retaining wall is failing, or excavation is planned beside an existing structure. Our site observations do not replace an engineering assessment.
It can be used to strengthen ground beneath existing foundations, support excavations, stabilise soil around retaining walls, and treat areas affected by underground voids. The proposed treatment depends on the site conditions and the purpose of the work.
Our grout injection work focuses on stabilising the ground and providing additional support. Grout injection does not return a structure to its original position.
Grout can often be injected through small access points, reducing the need for extensive excavation. Some drilling, removal of paving or localised digging may still be required, depending on access and the treatment area.
It can provide lasting ground improvement when suited to the site and properly designed and installed. Long-term performance also depends on the cause of the original problem, so issues such as leaking pipes or poor drainage may need to be addressed.
Pricing depends on the treatment dimensions, site access, ground conditions and project requirements. Contact Perth Underpinning on 0456 789 179 for a free, no-obligation quote. Photos, plans and any existing engineering reports can help us understand the work involved.
